Thomas Barrineau is the co-founder and CEO of OrderCounter, a point of sale company that specializes in cloud-hybrid solutions for the hospitality industry. He started his path down the payments industry while in high school as a Merchant Services Agent. In college, he started OrderCounter initially as an online ordering company with his friend and current CTO Scott Dickens in his garage. It has since evolved to the company it is today, with 21+ employees and over 25,000 user in multiple countries.
Thomas oversees OrderCounter's channel sales organization, new customer acquisition efforts, and the vision for the company. Additionally, Thomas leads the development and execution of strategic partnerships and other growth projects. He spent the last 12 years in the POS industry working with end-users, VAR partners and vendors while managing two other companies.
His experience managing both direct sales as well as the VAR partner community has allowed him to focus on what he believes is most important, supporting the growth and development of strong channel partners through leveraging best practices in the community.
As the CTO/Co-Founder, Scott spearheads the technology vision and direction for OrderCounter. Scott is in charge of developing the hybrid restaurant point of sale system in addition to all of the new products and features associated to ensure our restaurants run smoothly, stay flexible, and competitive. Scott is QIR certified, which means he was specially trained by the PCI Security Standards Council to address critical security controls while installing merchant payment systems.
With over 12 years' experience in the restaurant industry, Scott's focus has been to create effective user-friendly products that solves common problems in the workplace, as well as, creating secured products that grant partners easy accessibility to their business.
With razor-thin margins and high-paced environments, few people can truly understand the amount of grit, passion, and pride it takes to run a thriving restaurant.
When Thomas and Scott founded OrderCounter in 2007 in their garage as an online ordering platform, they wanted to give smaller restaurants a competitive edge by taking advantage of a service currently only available to the large national chains. In order to be successful, they began seeking out integrations with point of sale companies. They were quickly blocked at every turn - one legacy company suggested $25,000 just to set up a meeting. As a completely self-funded company, the two college students began to develop their own POS company and OrderCounter as you know it was formed.
As cloud-based technology grew and was rapidly gaining acceptance over legacy systems, restaurants were having issues with powering their restaurants at full force while being reliant on the internet and owning their data. Legacy systems have a track record of running with reliability. Cloud systems have not been able to achieve the same comfort for reliability but they are working hard to stay current with modern technologies that we expect today such as cloud reporting.
Realizing the pain points of both, our founders have developed technology that merges the benefits of both, creating an OrderCounter Hybrid POS: easy to deploy and accessible everywhere with the reliability of a traditional in-house server. Through word of mouth, the growth of our restaurant and channel partner have accelerated to over 25,000 users worldwide.
